Overview
The forts of Rajasthan are an impressive illustration of rich cultural heritage and awe-inspiring architecture. Almost every city of Rajasthan has forts, whether it is Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Udaipur, Chittorgarh, or Bikaner. These clans were together recognized as Rajputs. While Rajputs were known for their bravery and generosity, they were also ferociously territorial and they build strong battlements, which today have become famous forts of Rajasthan such as Jaisalmer Fort, one of the largest forts in the world. It stands proudly in the midst of the golden expanses of the great Thar Desert and it is also known as the ‘Golden Fort’.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 01 - Arrive Delhi
On day 1, you would be arriving at Delhi airport, where after clearing immigration and customs, you would be received and welcomed by Grand Travel Planner’s representative and then you will be transferred to your designated hotel for check-in.
Day 02 - Delhi Exploration
after breakfast, you would be leaving for a Delhi sightseeing tour. You will begin with new part of the city where you will get to see Qutub Minar, a 72 m high minaret and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Iron Pillar, a 1500 years old structure which is famous for its non-corrosive composition. Then you would be driving through the Embassy area and the Government buildings. In the evening, you would be free to explore the local markets and then return to the hotel for overnight stay.
Day 03 - Delhi to Mandawa
On day 3, you would be driving west to the Shekhawati region in the afternoon and stay two nights at the Castle Mandawa. All through this region, there are many mansions and palaces to visit, along with Fatehpur where nearly every street has the painted walls.
Day 04 - Mandawa to Bikaner
In the morning, after breakfast, you would be leaving for Bikaner. On arriving there, you would be taken to your designated hotel for check-in and some relaxing time. Bikaner is an ancient 15th-century walled city. In the afternoon, you would have a sightseeing tour of the city. You would get to visit a well-preserved Junagadh Fort, 16th-century Bhandasar Jain Temple, Camel Breeding Farm, and more. You would be returning to the hotel for overnight stay.
Day 05 - Bikaner to Jaisalmer
After having a delicious breakfast at the hotel, you would be on your way to Jaisalmer by road. Arriving there, you would be taken to your designated hotel for check-in. Located near the Pakistan Border, Jaisalmer is one of the major tourist spots of Rajasthan. It is also known as the ‘Golden City’ because of the plentiful golden dunes moving with the winds in the Thar Desert. Jaisalmer has beautiful lakes, elaborate Jain temples, Havelis, and castles built with golden yellowish sandstone. You can enjoy the deserts with camel rides and get an unforgettable experience of the golden land. In the afternoon, you would be free to relax and enjoy the city atmosphere. .
Day 06 - Jaisalmer Sightseeing
You would spend the day visiting the golden city of Jaisalmer. Your tour will begin with Jaisalmer Fort. With its brilliant workmanship, this fort is one of the most well-known forts in the world and also a UNESCO World Heritage site. Erected in 1156, Jaisalmer Fort was named after the former Bhati Rajput ruler, Rao Jaisal. Over three thousand people live inside the fort walls with several entrance gates. The fort has an imposing height of 250 ft. and is enclosed by a 30 ft. tall walls. The altitude of the fort gives a specacular and breathtaking view of Jaisalmer city. You would also be visiting the magnificent Patwon Ki Haveli in the town. It was constructed by the rich merchant Guman Chand Patwa and his sons. It is the most intricate and glorious haveli in the Jaisalmer and is an excellent representation of Jaisalmer’s famous architectural prosperity. Later on, you will be driven 40 km away from Jaisalmer to Sam Sand Dunes where you can enjoy the camel ride and the glorious sunset view .
Day 07 - Jaisalmer to Osiyan and Jodhpur excursion
Next day in the morning, you would be driving to Osiyan, located in the middle of Jaisalmer and Jodhpur. The place is famous for its Jain temples. Along with the Jain temples, there are also some wonderful Hindu temples devoted to various Hindu gods. After that, you would be visiting Jodhpur, the 2nd largest city in Rajasthan. It has forts, palaces, temples, and Havelis, cultural heritage, spices, colors, exotic fabrics, texture, and more, which makes this historic city a great place to visit. You would be visiting the city’s main attraction, Mehrangarh Fort. The city has been named after Rao Jodha. Founded in 1458 as the new capital of Rao Jodha, the city has developed around the Mehrangarh Fort, and in its history of 500 years till date, the fort has never been taken by its attackers. The fort also has a museum and it houses a wonderful collection of palanquins, howdah (Elephant saddle), cradles, miniatures, costumes, and furniture .
Day 08 - Osiyan to Kumbhalgarh
Next day, you would be driving for Kumbhalgarh Fort, built by Rana Kumbha, the well-known Mewar hero, and a smart and great builder. Kumbhalgarh Fort is an inspiring place and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are more than 360 temples within the fort. From the top of the palace, you can see the kilometers of the Aravalli Range. From the fort walls, you can get a peek of the sand dunes of the Thar Desert. The fort is also a short driving distance away from the renowned 15th century Ranakpur Jain Temples. Ranakpur has some of the most beautiful and well-regarded temples of western India and is also known for its wildlife, untouched nature, and warm hospitality .
Day 09 - Kumbhalgarh to Udaipur
Next day, you would be on your way to Udaipur, the city of lakes. The city of Udaipur has one of the most beautiful palaces and noteworthy lakes. The city provides you with a sight into history through a number of palaces and lakes that have been well-looked-after over the centuries. Some of the most famous lakes in the city are Pichola Lake, Uday Sagar Lake, Fateh Sagar Lake, and Swaroop Sagar Lake. Udaipur has a lot of tourist attractions including palaces, museums, and famous historical monuments. The city is also renowned for its well-appointed hotels in the midst of an appropriate surrounding of royal architecture and sophistication .
Day 10 - Udaipur Sightseeing
After breakfast, you would start your sightseeing tour of Udaipur city. You would be visiting City Palace. It was erected by Maharaja Udai Singh and is built on the banks of Lake Pichola. Next, you would be visiting, Sahelion Ki Bari, located on the banks of Fateh Sagar Lake; Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal, a museum displaying a wide collection of folk arts including puppets, outfits, dolls, instruments, paintings, etc. If you want, you can request for shows from world famous puppeteers. For the rest of the day, you would be free to explore the city on your own .
Day 11 - Udaipur to Pushkar
Next day, you would be driven to Pushkar, a holy town for Hindu devotees. The town is frequently visited by devotees with its multitudes of bathing ghats and temples. Pushkar is encircled by hills on three sides. Together with a fascinating mythological history, a heritage of everlasting architectural heritage makes Pushkar an enthralling city. The town also organizes one of the most unique fairs in the world, a combination of an animal fair and the religious fair .
Day 12 - From Pushkar to Samode
In the morning, you would be visiting the Brahma Temple, located close to sacred Pushkar Lake. There are also some other temples that you can visit. Afterward, you would be driven to Samode, snuggled pleasantly amid the uneven hills. The peaceful delicacy of the Samode palace provides you with a perfect sanctuary into an artistically gorgeous setting .
Day 13 - Samode to Jaipur
After Breakfast relax in samode . Later on, you would be driving to Jaipur. On your arrival, you would be checked-in into your hotel for the night .
Day 14 - Jaipur Excursion
Next day, you would be driven to Jaipur for sightseeing. Jaipur is popularly known as Pink City. With its rich and interesting past, it is now one of the most significant heritage cities in India. The city was set up in 1728 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, and the city is named after him. The city has many famous tourist attractions such as City Palace, Hawa Mahal or Palace of Winds, Jantar Mantar, etc .
Day 15 - Jaipur to Bharatpur
In the morning, you would be driven to Bharatpur, which was founded by Maharaja Surajmal in the year 1733. Once an unconquerable, well-fortified city, Bharatpur is now well-known for its bird sanctuary all over the world. It has over 364 species of migrant birds from Afghanistan, China, Siberia, and Turkmenistan. Other tourist attractions are Lohagarh Fort, Bharatpur Palace, etc .
Day 16 - Bharatpur to Fatehpur Sikri to Agra
Next day, you would be driving to Agra and on the way, there will be a stop at Fatehpur Sikri, which used to be the capital of Mughal Empire and was abandoned due to the scarcity of water. At Fatehpur Sikri, you would get to see Panch Mahal, Jama Masjid, Tomb of Salim Chisti, etc. Afterward, the drive to Agra will continue and you will stay at a hotel for the night .
Day 17 - Agra Excursion
It would be the day for Agra sightseeing. You would be visiting Taj Mahal, the symbol of eternal love. It was built by Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan in 1631, who made this stunning monument in order to honor the memory of his beloved, deceased wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It was completed in 22 years. Afterward, you would be taken to visit Agra Fort. It was built by Emperor Akbar in 1565 and more additions were made by Shah Jahan. The fort was constructed mainly as a military structure, but Shah Jahan converted it into a palace. It was built from red sandstone and is often called the Red Fort of Agra. Late on, you would be driven back to Delhi .
Day 18 - Agra to Delhi
